Finca el Mirador is an 11.7 hectare coffee farm that sits above the small village of Picuma (pop. ~300) in the municipality of Suaza, the departament of Huila, southern Colombia. El Mirador’s founder, Jose Jadir Losada, works as the Coordinator of Quality at Coocentral, a coffee cooperative in Garzon. Jose and his wife, Lyda, along with their two daughters, Maria Jose and Mariangel also live in Garzon. Jose has been managing all efforts at el Mirador for the past 8 years. In November 2015, Kyle Bellinger, of Osito Coffee exporting, purchased an ownership stake in the farm from Jose. Kyle and Osito had been buying coffee from el Mirador but Jose and Kyle decided to further deepen their working relationship by becoming official partners.
El Mirador is complete with a small wet mill and drying facilities. Currently, the varieties being cultivated are Castillo, Bourbon Rosado and Gesha and Jose and Kyle plan to plant old-stock Typica in the near future. They are ambitious and plan to conduct experiments with new varieties, pruning, fermentation and drying.
